Mitsubishi President Confirms Next Lancer Evo with Hybrid Powertrain, May be Combined with a…Diesel!

Perhaps the Maya were right and the world will come to an end in December 2012. In which case we’ll never get the chance to see what a Lancer Evolution hybrid-diesel looks like in 2015.

But let's take it from the beginning. The hybrid part of the story is not just another one of those crazy rumors that pop up on the net. In fact, it is as official as it gets since it comes from the mouth of Mitsubishi president, Osamu Masuko.

Masuko revealed to British magazine Autocar that the next generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo will ditch the regular 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit, which has become a mainstay of the 10 previous versions, in favor of a hybrid powertrain.

Italian Sushi: Fiat Coupé Conversion with a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 1,000HP V6 and AWD

Let's just imagine you're faced with this problem: You love the Fiat Coupe's punk rock styling but don't feel the same for its front-wheel drive layout. On the other hand, you're crazy about the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4's potent and technologically advanced powertrain but can't stand its notoriously bland looks.

We'll assume that any logical person would try to find an answer by looking into another vehicle, but not these guys. Welcome to insane tuning world of Russia's Totalcar that decided to create a vehicle that promises to deliver the best of both worlds.

We're still short on the full details as this is an ongoing project, but here's the skinny: the Russian tuner took the Mitsubishi's 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine and all-wheel drivetrain and somehow managed to fit it all under the beautiful body of the Chris Bangle-designed (yes, the same person who styled the BMW E65 7-Series) 1990's Fiat Coupé.

POLL: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Which is the Most Beautiful of All?

The results of a collaborative project between two or more automotive partners can vary deeply, depending on how far the participating companies are willing to take the rebadging process.

For example, the differences between the original Fiat Doblo and GM's Opel Combo spinoff (a RAM variant will also be introduced in early 2013) are more or less limited to the design of their front bumpers.

The French PSA Peugeot Citroën group on the other hand, gave its designers a little more breathing room when it came to the development of its new compact SUVs / crossovers, the Peugeot 4008 and the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS.

Mitsubishi to Co-Develop Wireless EV Charging System, Wants to Make Plugs Obsolete

ACEA, the European car manufacturers’ association, is pushing carmakers to adopt a common standard for charging their plug-in vehicles. And that’s a noble goal, since it will reduce complexity and costs and will eliminate many of the EVs restrictions.

The association's proposal, however, may be too little, too late. Mitsubishi has teamed up with IHI and WiTricity to develop an easily deployable wireless charging system for electric vehicles, eliminating the need for plugs and cords.

2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Review

The rally-inspired design, electronic driver assistance and a powerful turbocharged power, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is capable of high performance sport sedans on the market one. But the charm of this snappy immediately recognizable as a 4-door, is not limited to the North American market, "Evo" is a rabid fan following throughout the world.

Two versions of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is available in the U.S. market in 2011 model GSR model features a short distance from the 5-speed manual and a long list of standard features as well as a range of advanced electronic driver aids, including the Advanced Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC), a full-time four-wheel drive and is even better equipped with the MR edition, which includes significant Mitsubishi 6-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift-Transmission (TC-SST).

Mitsubishi FUSE Link hands-free system

This innovative technology enables users to access their Bluetooth cell phone, iPod or USB drive with the sound of their voices. Using simple voice commands, users can make phone calls hands-free and play their favorite songs by artist, genre, album or playlist. Furthermore, the Gracenote ® software that recognizes the names of musical artists and their songs will be updated for free, such as consumers add music more new ones that would fuse the system to recognize these new orders voice.

Real-time traffic (RTT)

Very useful and informative real-time traffic (RTT) is added to the navigation system, 40 GB HDD.

Recalibration exhaust

The exhaust system of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has been tuned for a sportier exhaust sound audio.

Sporty rear spoiler

All Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR models now include a large rear spoiler, at no additional cost to the consumer, with the MR version of the discreet rear spoiler lip.

USB TO

Each Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution features a convenient USB port for easy access inside the storage compartment between the front seats.

Aggressive race car-inspired styling

Car enthusiasts - especially the fans Motorsports - have long appreciated the distinctive body lines and aggressive, which is the characteristic hallmark of all Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution sports sedan. The current generation of 10-car still carries to this trend, but it makes the design aesthetic, is arguably the most beautiful interpretation of the legendary high-performance sports sedan and plans a long history of sport.

Inspired by the air intakes on fighter jets, the front bumper opening height and width of the car is not only providing the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution impose a face, but also large volumes of airflow into the engine compartment to provide a benefit of cooling the radiator and intercooler, which helps maximize energy production. Vents at the top of the bell, lightweight aluminum rear plate of the front wheels are as functional as they are stylish as they help remove hot air from inside the engine compartment.

Projecting wings around a relatively high beltline that slopes slightly downward toward the front of the vehicle and ran from the car's trunk lid combine to give the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution a position that is to once muscular and attractive.

A large tailgate mounted rear spoiler (GSR model) or a low profile, rear spoiler (model MR) round out the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution car racing exciting exterior styling inspired.

Inspiring turbocharged / intercooled 2.0-liter

Good design 4B11 T / C engine is at the heart of the entire track fast Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution - you can get the pulse racing, even the most experienced car enthusiasts with its ultra-fast acceleration and instant power loads barrel appear anywhere in the rev range of the tachometer.

Although only 2.0 liters (1997 cc) displacement, this hearty DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine line consists of an engine block and all-aluminum cylinder head (for high strength and low weight) and to a bore and stroke, both measuring just 86.0 mm (3.4 inches), making it a "square" design as its bore-stroke ratio is 1.0. Power of this engine is 291 horsepower at 6500 rpm with 300 lb.-ft. of torque at full product at a much lower 4000 rpm. Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC) acts on both camshafts intake and exhaust to maximize energy production and cleaner exhaust. Turbo / compression ratio is 9.0:1 the engine intercooler.

Short-Throw 5-speed manual or 6-speed rapid-fire double-Sportronic Shift Transmission

Standard equipment on the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR, manual gearbox 5 speed is fun to drive.

Your shifter navigate through the gates with a precision rifle bolt type with each short, take satisfactory. The pilot is also the light clutch and it works similarly. The functionality of the shifter and clutch pedal reward the operator with a high degree of mechanical feel - exactly what you want a high performance sports.

But while the functioning and feel of the manual transmission found in the GSR model provides a satisfactory performance, hard-core enthusiasts to drive most likely opt for the transmission of high technology is included in every model of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR.

Mitsubishi revolutionary dual-clutch transmission Sportronic Shift (TC-SST) is nothing less than an engineering marvel.

The TC-SST allows the driver to make changes in a fraction of the time could be achieved with a standard manual transmission. The system also allows the driver to make these changes through the shifter mounted on the console or even more comfort for steering wheel paddle levers of magnesium. Furthermore, the ratio of almost six-speed dual-clutch transmission shift Sportronic can operate in fully automatic, like a conventional automatic transmission. The manual or automatic, every move up or down takes place instantaneously without perceptible latency, with the engine management system "heartbeat" of the throttle with each downshift, matching the speeds of the engine and transmission perfectly.

Supercar performance of the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC)

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has always been known for its exceptional maneuverability. But the help of advanced electronic controller of the present generation of vehicles - especially large company in a super all wheel control (S-AWC) system - took the maneuverability of an evolution path hugs surprisingly high.

Control Super All-Wheel (S-AWC) is not a specific device, but a network of advanced dynamic that constantly communicate with each other to provide improved traceability. This includes Active Stability Control (ASC), an active center differential (ACD), active yaw control (CAL) rear differential and ABS brakes sports. Working together, the control of the Super-All Wheel (S-AWC) module torque at each wheel in real time for maximum control.

Active Stability Control (ASC) includes traction control systems and vehicle stability control and helps regulate the distribution of braking force and engine power at each wheel.

Active Center Differential (ACD) uses electronically controlled hydraulic multi-plate clutch share the motor torque (up to 50:50), front and rear tires. This routing engine power between front and rear of the vehicle depends on a variety of data collected by individual sensors such as wheel speed, throttle opening, wheel angle, and lateral and longitudinal positioning of the car .

Acting similarly to a conventional limited slip differential, Active Yaw Control rear differential (CJA) uses a planetary gear differential, speed sensor and control the braking force by Active Stability Control (ASC) system for torque control to the rear wheels for better traction and stability on slippery road and high speed cornering.

Thanks to advanced sensors, brake pressure, speed and yaw rate sensor, Sport anti-lock (ABS) helps the driver maintain steering control on slippery surfaces better, or very heavy braking.

Advanced Sport-Tuned Chassis and suspension

A very rigid, strong but lightweight components and excellent suspension tuned independently form the basis for each of the Lancer Evolution.

Ages platform has a lot of use of a very strong yet light high-tensile steel and the hood, front fenders and the greenhouse is made entirely of lightweight aluminum. Mitsubishi engineers cleverly placed in a car battery and windshield washing fluid reservoir body to improve the distribution of the total weight of the car.

The suspension consists of MacPherson type strut (inverted strut) design on the front of the vehicle employs a multi-link rear suspension. Improving unsprung weight, arms control and front and rear suspension are made of forged aluminum. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Another strong point is its incredible stopping power, thanks to the Brembo brake system, which uses a 4-sports channel ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and large ventilated rotors all four corners (13.8-in. diameter 4-piston calipers in front and 13.0-in. diameter 2-piston rear calipers). Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR model for the brakes even more advanced than those that employ two-piece rotor design to reduce weight. Super-sticky tires 245/40R18 Yokohama Advan performance asymmetrical wrapped around 18 x 8.5-in.

wheels (Enkei cast-alloy ® is a GSR and BBS ® forged-alloy MR) round out the ultra-high performance components and design make this a sensational performance of the car, as capable on the track as it is easy to drive in the world real.

World-class daily driver

Having made their mark on the world of motor racing, including several grueling World Rally Championship (WRC), where fighters fight for the courses, which include sand, gravel and paved roads, the current evolution Lancer is a wonderful tool for live each day the excellent ergonomics and comfort.

RECARO ® rugged but comfortable front sport bucket seats work well for both quick trips and long journeys on a daily basis, while the high-sounding 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with 6 speakers, digital signal processing processor, Cruise control, automatic climate control, remote keyless entry and electronic windows, mirrors and locks to help make for a long time behind the wheel of a very nice person.

A Touring Package is also available for the MR, which is a power sunroof, leather seats Recaro ® seats, improved sound insulation, wipers, auto on / off headlights and heated front seats and side mirrors.

Advanced Security Technologies

For 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution has a number of innovative security technologies to help protect all vehicle occupants.

Each development is equipped with next generation Mitsubishi Evolution Reinforced Impact Safety (RISE) unibody platform, in case of side or rear collision, helping to disperse energy away from passengers, for better protection against damage, RISE also helps the system to protect the fuel system from the rear effects.

2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Review

Mitsubishi Motors is adding a new model derived from the top of the line crossing, the Outlander: The new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, a slightly smaller version of the popular seven-passenger CUV, which has a completely redesigned body, a more fuel efficient engine mated to a 5-speed manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT) and comfortable accommodation for five.

The new model sports models 2011 years Mitsubishi Outlander is available in two finishes for the U.S. market: ES 2WD and features generous standard equipment package, and choose a manual or a CVT transmission and a higher level, a technique with the SE version, which is available in 2WD or 4WD, and contains a variable transmission.

"The new Outlander Sport 2011 is a reflection of what happens when Mitsubishi Motors is focusing its engineering resources and design in the task of developing a fun, expressive, affordable, but the most ecological car," said Shinichi Kurihara, president and MMNA CEO.

Athletic Style

His tight, muscular sheets, the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a breed apart visually from the rest of its competition in the compact crossover.

When the front end inspired by jet fighter air intakes that decorated the company legendary high-performance sports saloon - the Lancer Evolution - Mitsubishi Outlander Sport will bring a touch of pepper, more to the otherwise very poor segment of the event. But the sculpted body is not just a cosmetic use - its smooth lines and flowing, long-beltline and rear spoiler combine to give this new model and elegant one of the lowest coefficients of drag of a car of its class.

Reconfiguration of the 2.0-liter engine

For this application, crossover, the company tried and true 4B11 engine with aluminum block and cylinder head, innovative MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing electronic) variable valve timing and configuration normally aspirated accompanied by new features, including pistons resin-coated and camshaft in a smoother surface to reduce friction and fuel economy. A more efficient alternator and power steering lot to this cause.

Mitsubishi Outlander sport, this enhanced version of the 4B11 produces 148 hp @ 6000 rpm and 143 pound-feet of torque complete at low revs the 4200 a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder in-line configuration. In addition, most of the torque is produced through a wide range of power around 2200 rpm all the way to just below the red line at 6,500 rpm.

More fuel Sportronic CVT or 5-speed manual

Available in the Mitsubishi Outlander ES Sport and standard on the SE model, the Sportronic ® continuously variable transmission (CVT) design features improvements not only help improve fuel economy and reduce emissions of previous iterations of this innovative transmission technology Mitsubishi, but also to make the driver feel by moving manually via magnesium paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

In normal driving on flat roads, the CVT has changed his schedule is established to provide a good balance between fuel economy and dynamic performance. But if a driver encounters a road that begs to be driven with more zeal, the CVT shifts to a more aggressive manual sport mode that mimics a 6-speed transmission and improves the responsiveness of pulley hydraulic unit.

The standard transmission in the Mitsubishi Outlander ES Sport Mitsubishi gearbox smooth shifting 5-speed manual has been updated for this compact crossover vehicle. Change believed to have been improved with the addition of two marches triple synchronizers in first and second gear ratios and final start was modified for better performance and fuel economy.

Electronically controlled 4WD for optimal treatment and adherence

Borrowed from the Outlander a medium-sized, lightweight, electronically controlled 4WD system is optional on the Outlander Sport SE, and has seen a further improvement in the design of the facilities of his cousin less than the crossover. The system of power transfer unit (PTU) to use a low viscosity oil to reduce parasite drag and promote fuel economy improvements, but the torque distribution of the calibration is improved for all road surface conditions (snow , sand, ice), leading to greater stability.

Chassis: A cup for the best

With a total length of 169.1 inches vs. 183.7 inches Outlander, the new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is more than a foot shorter than their siblings closer in width (69.7 inches versus 70, 9 inches) and height ( 64.2 inches to 66.1 inches in front), respectively, while sharing an identical wheelbase of 105.1 inches Mitsubishi Outlander ES 2WD A Sport with CVT tipped the scales weighing in at £ 3098 - just over 100 pounds heavier than CVT-equipped sedan Lancer GTS.

Both Sport and Outlander Outlander share the same suspension tuning - a set MacPherson front with a rear multi-link rear - but the new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport has received some design changes that provide an optimum driving comfort and stability sufficient to support better sport compact.

Living Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a unique mirror from the Outlander only - only parts to be transferred to the new crossover.

Major revisions in the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport chassis are members of the Cross for the support of the new electric power steering and redesigned rear half of the platform (floor) to accommodate a new exhaust system more streamlined and made of high resistance for increased structural rigidity while reducing weight.

Safety: Technology gives Piece of Mind

Taking advantage of the tremendous amount of research and development carried out on behalf of the original security Outlander, Outlander sport uses a lot of technical thinking, not only to minimize damage to all occupants of the car (Mitsubishi Outlander sport has received ratings 5-Star frontal and side impact of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), but also for pedestrians too.

A breakthrough in the cabin of the security system that consists of a front air bag supplemental restraint (SRS) for driver and front passenger, includes side air bags and air curtains, a knee air bag sensors driver, the driver's seat position and passenger weight, active front headrests and seatbelts for three points in the five seats (front safety belts) are included at no charge.

Function security is the driving dynamic braking system that would ignore both the accelerator and brake pedal is engaged at the same time, the vehicle decelerates to stop.

Outlander Sport also includes a next-generation Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution Mitsubishi (Rise) technology in its frame. RISE system dissipates energy, if the side or rear impact, helping to protect passengers while minimizing the distortion of the fuel system of the body and the rear end collision.

Pedestrian protection technologies include a newly designed energy-absorbing front bumper to reduce injury to the leg, the front fenders plastic twist cap and bend the light again.

Ride, comfort and

Whether it is a fast drive to the grocery store or a long journey between states, the occupants of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is treated to a refined driving in comfort and a host of welcome features - all made more impressive when Considering this beautiful and capable of crossing low MSRP.

The open road, the suspension system provides a satisfactory strong character around that feels that the high U.S. dollar luxury sedan when the electric power steering communicates with excellent feedback from the road. Fabric covered seats are comfortable for everyone - especially the front seats, because they have a torso and thigh support well - when there is plenty of room for adjustment, even longer (6 feet), set.
