An Eco-Icon

The first generation Toyota Prius on the market in 1997 as the first mass production of hybrids. The Prius name, "go before" in Latin, became the symbol of a car that was launched even before environmental awareness has become a mainstream social problem.

From the start, the Toyota full hybrid system developed in-house and was a driving force behind the advanced vehicle technologies. Exclusive of the company's Hybrid Synergy Drive was introduced in 2004 on the second generation Toyota Prius. Since then, more than 670,000 were sold in the U.S.

In designing the new third-generation Prius, Toyota's engineers combined a careful refinement of existing systems with an aggressive measure of new technologies for the future of the automobile.

Fuel economy and environmental performance

The new Toyota Prius is built with processes that reduce pollution at all stages of the life of the vehicle, driving on the production and destruction.

Third generation Toyota Prius to extend the record of continuous improvement in fuel consumption. The first generation of the Toyota Prius, which was rated at 41 mpg in the EPA, together, have been replaced by the current model, which is EPA rated 46 mpg combined city / highway. Using a combination of technology, fuel efficiency increased by about 50 miles per gallon of the new Toyota Prius.

An engine bigger and more powerful 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder will power the new Toyota Prius. Contrary to popular belief, the larger engine can actually improve highway mileage. By making more torque, the new engine to run at low speed average on the highway. When operating at low speeds, the new engine uses less fuel. Mileage is particularly improved the conditions for cold start and high speed.

Using an electric water pump and a new exhaust gas (EGR) also contribute to engine efficiency. The 1.8-liter engine of the Toyota Prius is the first Toyota plant of energy that do not require belts under the hood of fuel economy and less potential maintenance.

A panel of multi-information display that monitors fuel and energy consumption is the norm. Provides information on the effectiveness of the Toyota Prius with three different views to help the driver to acquire economical driving habits.

Unlike most other hybrid vehicles available, the Toyota Prius was a "full" hybrid since launch. This allows the engine to run on its own, the battery alone or a combination of both. The system combines the best of the hybrid system in parallel and series hybrid designs to achieve the ability to operate in electric-only mode, and to charge the batteries while the car is running.

The unit's patented Hybrid Synergy 2010 Toyota Prius is 90 percent of new development with significant improvements over previous models.

Transaxle is lighter and reduces torque losses by as much as 20 percent over the previous model.

The inverter converts direct current into alternating current, has a new direct cooling system to reduce the size and weight.

Together with the drive, motor and transaxle are smaller and 20 percent lighter.

A new electronically controlled regenerative braking system was adopted and optimized control logic to improve regeneration.

The new Toyota Prius will offer three alternative modes of behavior. EV Drive Mode allows driving on battery power alone at low speed for about a mile, if conditions permit. There is also a power mode, which increases sensitivity to the gas inlet for a sportier feel, and an Eco mode, which helps the driver to reach its best mileage.

The spiky hair

The design of the new Prius, aerodynamic performance has been an important factor. The goal was to create a beautiful silhouette, without compromising the work. The designers kept the dynamic triangle shape of the current model - instantly recognizable as the Toyota Prius - but the changes in the position of the profile, and the angle of the pillar. In front of the column, extended forward, will improve performance, focusing on the form.

Total height of the Toyota Prius is the same, but the roofline changed by moving the top of the roof 3.9 inches behind. This emphasizes the wedge shape, and also allows for more headroom and rear better aerodynamics.

The design of the front the new Toyota Prius and the rear corners are sharp, sporty and aerodynamic. Sharp increase in side character lines from front to rear, window to define the geometric shape. Viewed from the rear, wider tread of the rear tire to create a solid, anchored position.

Dimensions, the new Toyota Prius has the same wheelbase as the current generation. The overall length is 0.6 inches slightly higher, in part, by moving the steering head forward.

World's lowest Cd

The new Prius has received more hours of wind tunnel tests than any other in the history of Toyota, which is cleaner the aerodynamic profile of any mass-produced car in the world. By focusing on body shape, soil, covering the cockpit and how the wheels, the designers of the new Toyota Prius have been able to reduce the coefficient of drag (Cd) value of 0.25, compared to 0.26 for the previous model. The airflow under the car has been extensively studied. The engineers made changes to the way the lining of defense, the front surface of the earth, and added a wing to cover the rear floor to increase the linear stability.

Advanced Equipment in New Era

A sliding moonroof is available packaged with solar panels that are placed on the rear seat ventilation system that new power. The ventilation system uses a solar-powered electric motor fan does not need traffic help. The system prevents air temperature increase inside while the vehicle is parked, making the cooling time shorter when the driver returns the vehicle and reduce the use of air conditioning.

The remote control air conditioning is the world's first system to run on battery power alone and can be controlled remotely, so the driver can adjust the interior temperature comfortable before entering the car.

Reduce the power consumption of the vehicle, available with LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs used in low beams and tail and brake lights. Air conditioning, a large discharge of energy, has re-designed to increase efficiency and cooling performance. In addition, the exhaust system to reduce heat recycling waste heat from the heating of the coolant of the engine during cold starting, to improve performance. It is also the warm cabin.

Improved performance of the vehicle

The next generation Toyota Prius is built on a new platform, which allows better handling stability, quieter operation, and safety of collisions. The front suspension consists of struts and rear beam design an intermediary, as before, but the stability of the manipulation is done to improve the design of the stabilizer, the top pitcher making and setting characteristics. Disc brakes are now used in all four corners, replacing the front disc brakes / rear drum brakes on the current model.

Weight is saved through the use of aluminum in the hood, tailgate, front axle suspension and brake caliper and steel rockers Super high on the inside, the central pillar and the strengthening of the roof. To meet customers' expectations of performance in everyday life, from zero to 60 acceleration is improved by 9.8 seconds over a second faster than internal testing.

More effective soundproofing, along with improved vibration damping has been installed at various locations in order to reduce road noise.

Interior is more functional in

Shows that small changes add up big profits, baggage Toyota Prius has been extended to 0.4 cm long and 2.2 cm wide, using the new look and improved cooling of the battery.

Seen from the cockpit in the center console, dash cluster sliding. Storage space is added to the shift lever using the shift-by-wire system. Simple, finned air intakes are in line with the efficient-looking cottage. The judicious use of silver accents most comprehensive, technical feel.

Pressure sensors on the steering wheel are designed to reduce the movement of the pilot's eyes for better concentration on the road. When the driver touches the switch or audio information located on the steering wheel is a copy of the image displayed on the dashboard, directly in front of the driver. This system, called Touch Tracer, is the first system in the world to allow the wheel to read on the dashboard.

ECO indicator Multi-information Display (MID) to provide feedback to the driver in less fuel consumption.

In trying to develop a variety of advanced technologies designed to achieve sustainable mobility, Toyota uses herbs, carbon-neutral plastic 2010 Toyota Prius. The newly developed plastic, which is known as "green plastic" is used in the seat cushion foam, hand, hat trim, interior and exterior scuff plates, and cut the hood. Ecological Plastic emits less CO2 during the life cycle of the product (the production of Destruction) that the plastic-based oil products alone, but also helps reduce oil consumption.
